If you don’t know, let us tell you that the XAMPP helps us connect with WordPress sites. XAMPP enables you to handle a website from your very own device. Once you have its setup, you can turn up a new WordPress install with just a few clicks.

But to install XAMPP and WordPress can be tricky so you might need a helping hand.

In this step-by-step tutorial, we will guide you on How to install WordPress on XAMMP. If you have any queries about XAMPP must need to read this article thoroughly.

Download and Install XAMPP

First, you need to install WordPress locally from the browser to download and install the XAMPP program. You can download the Windows installer file from the “Apache Friends” website. It’s a big file, about 110 MB, and it may take a minute depending on your internet connection.

Once the download ends, go to the downloaded file to RUN the XAMPP installer. If you install antivirus software, you might get a warning. Just click Yes to continue.

The pop-up menu for installing XAMMP will appear; click next.

On the next screen, you can choose which features to install. To install XAMPP and WordPress, you do not need to install all its components. Besides the required features, all you need is:

  • MySQL
  • PHPMyAdmin

Now again, click next > next > next > next; now, the software is getting installed, and the process might take a few minutes.

Once completed, you can run the control panel to work with the XAMPP.

Modules and Tests your server

To run your XAMMP and WordPress properly, open your XAMMP and run the following modules:

  • Apache
  • MySQL

Once you run both modules, see their status turn green.

Now you can check if the local server is working for that; go the “http://localhost/.”

If you reach there, your local server is working, and now it’s time to install XAMPP and WordPress.

Installing WordPress

For installing WordPress go to and download the latest version of WordPress. From the C drive, locate the folder where you installed XAMPP. Then, find the htdocs sub-folder; in the htdocs folder, create another sub-folder for your test site. Once you make the folder, extract the WordPress .zip file from the downloaded folder.

DataBase for WordPress

Now, make a MySQL database for your WordPress install. To do that, run PHPMyAdmin from your XAMPP control panel.

  • Click on Databases from the top left.
  • Click create.
  • Enter the name in the testsite text field. Remember the name you enter because you will need it for the next step.

Install WordPress locally via the on-screen installer

To visit your new testing site, you see the WordPress installer. Remember, the test site is just “http://localhost/FOLDERNAME.” The folder name should be the same one you have created in your htdocs folder.

Here enter the details of your website:

  • Database Name = “Name of the database you have created in PHPMyAdmin.”
  • Username = “root”
  • Password = leave blank

Once you finish the details, click on submit, and see your brand new WordPress install running perfectly on your localhost. Here you create your WordPress website by using XAMMP.
